Convergence is a place of new beginning both IC and OOC. We strive to create an inclusive, positive OOC culture that can nurture the sort of trust that permits a wide range of freedom IC. As such, our staff shall be held to the highest possible standards. Please review the following rules closely in order to understand our staff expectations. All of the following are in addition to the normal sim rules which Admins are to adhere to and enforce to the best of their ability.
All staff serve as representatives of the Convergence: The Lost Planet sim. Staff are expected to be courteous, respectful, patient and helpful to all players regardless of the situation or circumstances. Members of staff must conduct themselves professionally at all times. Staff are expected to escalate issues in accordance with the chain of command. Remember: although this is a virtual world, there is a real person on the other side of the screen.
Be knowledgeable. Regardless of your role as a member of the CV:TLP staff, all members are expected to be familiar with the general lore and rules of the sim. Staff should do their best not to provide misinformation to players or other staff whenever possible. The lore of CV:TLP is vast and spans many years of hard work from our community; although we do not expect staff to know every nuance by heart, we do expect an honest effort will be made to discover the answers to questions before information is passed on.
Take breaks. With such a large community, the demand on staff members’ time and resources can be high. There will be periods where large events require long hours. Some events will be more time-consuming and ask more of the staff than others. If a staff member is beginning to feel worn or burned out, they are expected to think of themselves first and their own well-being. Staff should communicate to the Owners or Head Admins any need to take some time away from the game in order to recover.
Uphold the rules of the sim. Although we have a team of trained adjudicators whose purpose is to handle conflicts and other serious issues that may arise OOC within the community, all staff are expected to help uphold the rules of the sim. Serious altercations that cannot be resolved by players or staff should be directed to the adjudication form for resolution.
All staff will receive, as compensation for their efforts, 2 XP per month to be allocated to a single avatar. This avatar must be specified at the time that the individual joins staff. Staff work diligently to maintain the OOC structure of our community and this is the only way we really have of saying thank you for the time volunteered to CV:TLP. This XP is not to exceed the limit of 5xp per month any normal player can achieve through other means. It simply represents payment for time the staff would have otherwise used RPing to gain XP in other ways.
Communicate. All staff are expected to communicate regularly and respectfully with other staff and with players in order to maintain a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities as well as to stay abreast of the general story of the sim.
Ask for help. Serving as staff for such a large community is a difficult job. Staff are expected to ask for help when necessary, especially with large STd events or other major projects. Sometimes more people show up to an event than expected or there are more XP requests in a single month than before. Be sure to ask for aid from other staff members when necessary so that things continue to run smoothly for everyone.
Be ethical. Any staff member found to be behaving in an unethical manner will be subject to discipline and may be removed from staff. Some examples of unethical behavior include: utilizing OOC resources for personal IC gain or the IC gain of friends, using OOC information gained through staff channels for non-approved IC purposes, cheating, lying, provoking conflict, illegal activity or breaking LL’s ToS.
Be forgiving and kind. It is extremely important to the community of Convergence that players are trusted and given the benefit of the doubt when possible. Staff are encouraged to not speak negatively towards other players or staff, especially in open channels or chats, just as we would expect of players. Even if a player is getting on your nerves or doing something you don't agree with, try your best not to put down the player, or their character. Many forms of RP and many different types of interests are valid here. It is our goal to help everyone find a place to fit into the story.
